In my opinion “A long way down” is a book that can have extremely different reviews. For me it’s a difficult to decide whether I like it or not, but I would tend to the negative side.

The story is about four people of different age, who want to kill themselves. They meet on New Year’s Eve because everyone of them wants to jump off the so-called “Topper’s Building”. They decide to wait until Valentine’s Day and see whether their problems are solved, and then they can still decide whether they will commit suicide or not.

The book does not really have a happyend, the problems of the people are still unsolved. As the reader you would at least expect that the four got real friends, but even that is not true. This is what I dislike, they do not really like each other, and so there is a kind of impersonal and reserved atmosphere in the book.

The only thing I like is that it is sometimes very funny, because the people say things you would never even think…

All in all it is a interesting book, and everyone has to decide by himself whether he likes it or not.
