EXT. ROAD – UK / TORLEY HEATH – DAY

fade-in – establishing shot

A bus stops. full shot at the bus. Bus drives away. You can see Maureen and Jess.

 

Maureen and Jess are near Cindy’s house. Her kids are playing in the garden with a dog. The two women walk slowly down the street while talking to each other. normal shot of the two

JESS

Do you know the names of Martin’s kids?(whispering)

MAUREEN

Yes, I think they’re called Polly and Maisie.(whispering)


JESS

That seems right. I could imagine, Martin and Cindy gave their kids such old-fashioned names, those nerds.(not talking loud)(disdainfully laughing)

Polly! Maisie! (exaggeratedly shouting)(waving her hand)

KIDS

(arrive, mumbling)(jumping around)

MAUREEN

(is bending down)

Is your mother in there? We want talk to her.

(friendly, uncertain)

KIDS

Yes she is in there.(choir)

(going back and playing with the dog again)

pan to the place where the dog is at

MAUREEN

Nice kids. Really nice these kids.(dreamy)

JESS

Yeah!(laughing out loud) Really nice. (quietly, disdainfully)

MAUREEN

(knocking softly on the door)

 

JESS

(knocking hard on the door)

CINDY

close up

(opens the door)

Hello? Who are you?(suprised)

JESS

reverse angle shot

Hey, my name is Jess. I am one of the Toppers’ House Four, and I was, you know, linked to your husband or whatever in the newspapers. (factually)

CINDY

Ex-husband!(certainly)

JESS

reverse angle

Well, that’s the thing, isn’t it?

CINDY

Is it?(confused)

JESS

reverse angle

Yes, it is. Because he doesn’t have to be your ex-husband.

(Jess comes a little bit closer)

CINDY

Oh, yes he does! (ironical smile)(focusing on Jess)

MAUREEN

reverse angle

Hello, my name is Maureen. I am also a good friend of Martin’s. Do you think we could come in and talk to you? It was a long down from London to Torley Heath.

CINDY

I am sorry. You are right. Come in please. (to Maureen, providing)
